I am a historian of art and ideas, with a particular interest in how images and objects communicate. I specialise in the history and culture of Tudor and late-medieval Britain.
I am an AHRC/BBC New Generation Thinker 2019.
I am a Research Fellow at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where my next project will be on Elizabethan art and music. My PhD revealed how Tudor and Jacobean artists made their art 'lively' or vivid for viewers (University of Cambridge, AHRC-funded).
I teach at the University of Cambridge, and I'm a tutor for the Cambridge Institute for Continuing Education, convening their MSt in History of Art and Visual Culture. I give talks and teach courses about the art and cultural history of various periods to audiences of all ages and levels of experience.
