I'm a historian of art & ideas, and a freelance writer, lecturer, curator & broadcaster based in Cambridge, UK. I specialise in the art and culture of Tudor & late medieval Britain, and its later reception. My wider interests include relationships between images, objects, literature and music across time, as well as the contemporary craft of art writing.

I host British Art Matters podcast, and have been a BBC New Generation Thinker since 2019. My reviews and cultural criticism feature on BBC Radio & in Apollo Magazine, the LRB, the New Statesman & The Telegraph. In 2021, I was shortlisted for the British Journalism Awards in the Arts and Entertainment Category, and I have appeared on Waldy & Bendy's Adventures in Art, Not Just The Tudors, Talking Tudors, Times Radio and Evening Standard's The Leader.

I am an Affiliated Lecturer at the University of Cambridge, a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and of the Royal Historical Society, and a Trustee of the Walpole Society for British art history. My first book, Tudor Liveliness: Vivid Art in Post Reformation England (Paul Mellon Centre / Yale University Press, 2023), was based on my PhD at the University of Cambridge. My scholarly work has been published in leading journals, including Renaissance Studies, British Art Studies, Print Quarterly & Burlington Contemporary.​​

In 2026, I curated Tudor Contemporary at The Heong Gallery, Downing College, Cambridge, the first multidisciplinary exhibition to explore the legacies of Tudor art & history in the work of 11 contemporary artists, including Mat Collishaw, The Singh Twins, Linder, Chan-Hyo Bae, Natasha Kensmil & Serena Korda.
